The power utility has applied for a 15 percent tariff increase over the next three years.
But after the first day of the public hearings, Eskom faces an uphill battle to convince the regulator.
A household currently paying R1000 per month for electricity will be paying R150 more by April this year if Eskom gets its way.
Over three years this amount will skyrocket to just under R2000.
President Ramaphosa is set to meet with the Eskom task team this week for an update.
